Why I believe that together we make eyes and practices flourish

In a practice, you can often spot areas for growth quite quickly. A child whose prescription gets stronger every year, a regular customer who keeps pushing their reading glasses further and further away, a contact lens wearer who’s unsure about their lens solution. In this article, I explain why SMEYEL doesn’t just supply products, but also works with you to consider how best to use them in your practice.

Sometimes you can tell at a glance

Anyone who spends their days in the fitting room recognises the patterns. The questions raised at the reception desk are rarely purely technical. They concern getting used to the lenses, comfort whilst wearing them, and doubts about whether a lens really suits the wearer’s lifestyle. This is precisely where the partnership between a supplier and a practice begins: not with the product, but with the question behind it.

For me, that’s the starting point. Reliable supply is the foundation, but the discussion about how the products are used is what makes the difference. That’s why, alongside supply, SMEYEL also invests in support: helping to shape the product range, advising on fitting and providing guidance during consultations.

Opzie Omnifocal in practice

Opzie Omnifocal is a multifocal daily disposable lens from our range. The available powers, designs and applications are listed in the Opzie product documentation and on the product page. What the lens can offer your practice depends on your patient population and your fitting protocol. We’d be happy to discuss this with you.

View the Opzie Omnifocal multifocal daily disposable lens for the latest specifications, and read more about the Opzie brand for background information. The choice of lens is ultimately a professional judgement made in practice, based on the wearer and the manufacturer’s documentation.

A good lens alone is not enough

A lens that looks suitable on paper does not necessarily mean a successful fitting. The adjustment period, the explanation provided and the support given determine whether a wearer remains satisfied. With multifocal lenses, another factor is how the visual system copes with different viewing distances. How this works is described in the blog post on how the brain copes with multifocal contact lenses.

For young contact lens wearers, guidance from a contact lens specialist is crucial, from the initial fitting right through to subsequent check-ups. Parents often have questions about hygiene, wearing schedules and what to do if something goes wrong. A thorough explanation during the consultation prevents most problems. Background information on care and check-ups can be found on oogartsen.nl under ‘contact lens care’, and guidance for wearers experiencing symptoms can be found on thuisarts.nl under ‘contact lens-related symptoms’.

Building your practice together

For me, thinking alongside our customers means more than just offering a product. It’s about how a product range fits in with the running of a practice, how a fitting protocol can be made more efficient, and how to make the most of the time spent with the patient. Our support for opticians and clinics is focused on these areas.

A concrete example is the time taken for a fitting process. By following a standardised procedure and preparing thoroughly, you can avoid unnecessary follow-up appointments. You can read about how to manage this in the blog post on reducing consultation times in the practice. We’d be happy to discuss topics like this with you, tailored to your specific situation.

What I believe in

My philosophy is simple. We don’t just supply lenses and solutions; we also work with you to ensure the best possible care for your lens wearers. That’s what makes this work worthwhile. For an optician or optometrist, dealing with a supplier who understands the practice is a different experience from dealing with one who simply delivers goods.

This collaboration is not simply an additional service alongside the product, but lies at the heart of how SMEYEL operates. Discuss the application with our team whenever you’d like to discuss your product range, fitting or the support you provide to your wearers.

We look forward to meeting you

We look forward to meeting you at trade fairs and during our webinars for professionals. There, we’ll share our expertise on fitting, product ranges and in-practice support, and we’d be delighted to chat with you. Do you have a question about a product or how to use it?
