General
SMEYEL sells and supplies optical products, such as liquids and eye drops and the OPZIE day lens to optical shops in the Netherlands and Belgium. In this Privacy Statement, we describe how SMEYEL processes personal data of Data Subjects, e.g. (potential) customers, job applicants, business partners, suppliers, etc.
Personal data we process
Personal data refers to information about an identified or identifiable natural person. SMEYEL processes as little personal data as possible by using company names and/or client numbers as much as possible. SMEYEL may process the following data of Data Subject:

The Data Subject is never obliged to provide personal data. If Complainant refuses to provide his or her personal data, SMEYEL may not be able to provide Complainant with its services. To the extent possible, SMEYEL will work with company data when performing its services.
Purposes and bases for processing personal data
SMEYEL only processes personal data on a legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). As a rule, this will involve the performance of an agreement with the Data Subject, with the Data Subject's consent or due to a legitimate interest.
SMEYEL processes personal data for the following purposes, based on the following bases:
Special and/or sensitive personal data that we process
The SMEYEL website and/or service does not intend to collect data on website visitors who are under 16 years of age. Unless they have parental or guardian consent. However, SMEYEL cannot verify whether a visitor is older than 16. We therefore advise parents to be involved in their children's online activities to avoid collecting data on children without parental consent. Automated decision-making
SMEYEL does not make decisions on matters that could (significantly) affect individuals on the basis of automated processing. These are decisions made by computer programmes or systems, without any human being (e.g. an SMEYEL employee) being involved.
How long we keep personal data
SMEYEL does not retain your personal data for longer than is strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which your data is collected. We use the following retention periods:
For customer and supplier data (such as quotations, order history, invoices and contracts), SMEYEL maintains a retention period of 7 years due to tax appeal requirements.
When it comes to contacts of (potential) customers and suppliers, we keep personal data for as long as the relationship or quotation process is ongoing and for 2 years thereafter for relationship management.
We retain data from job applicants, including the CV, notes and cover letters for up to 4 weeks after the completion of the application process, and with the Data Subject's consent for up to one year.
In principle, data relating to complaints will be retained SMEYEL for up to 2 years after completion of the complaint, unless a procedure has been announced on runs or SMEYEL has a legal obligation to retain the personal data longer.
Sharing personal data with third parties
In principle, SMEYEL does not share personal data with third parties. This is only done if it is necessary for the performance of the agreement and to comply with any legal obligation. If SMEYEL works with another party (e.g. IT, website hosting, accounting package, email provider or external consultants), SMEYEL will enter into a processing agreement to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of Data Subjects' personal data. SMEYEL remains responsible for these processing operations.
Should the performance of the service require the transfer of personal data to countries outside the European Economic Area, SMEYEL will put in place appropriate safeguards in order to lawfully transfer the personal data to such countries.

SMEYEL takes the protection of your data seriously and takes appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorised access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorised modification.
